Recently I had a great time doing some printing with the community in South Hobart as part of Sweet Treats - My Street, Community celebration event in Wellesley Park in South Hobart.
I was given the brief of a printmaking activity for everyone and the theme was that people were bringing Cakes to share and it was symbolic of ingredients that make up a community. (that last bit might have been my interpretation!)
I landed on the idea of stamping images of what people might like about living in South Hobart onto a paper plate, that they could put some cake on. So first work out what people like in SoHo then cut some stamps. I managed to get about 25 stamps ready and added a couple of extras that I had or borrowed.
The morning of the event was Frosty and Cold! But by the time I go to the park it was Sunny and warm and stayed that way for the rest of the day. Eighty plates were stamped and lots of kids, parents and grandparents had a great time.
They had to roll some acrylic paint onto a little ink slab then roll the paint onto the stamp. Everyone got the idea quickly and went with the idea, lots of variation and creativity of how it was done.
Thanks to the City of Hobart Events team for the invite.
